POA Board ratifies abandonment of Moonstone Beach playground installation, underground utilities at Tennis Courts

The POA Board on Tuesday ratified the abandonment of the Moonstone Beach playground installation and underground utilities at the tennis courts for lack of feasibility. The abandonment of the projects will save the POA approximately $150,000, according to the POA.

In July of 2020, the board approved a project list that included playground equipment for Moonstone Beach. It was later determined that there was not adequate room to meet the current playground safety standards and have a usable playground for the community to enjoy.

According to the POA, the playground is too close to the lake and would require retaining walls on three sides to bring the grade up to ADA code, fencing around all the equipment, and the removal of three mature trees that provide shading.

In August of 2020, the board approved $43,500 for the addition of underground utilities for a proposed future community building before the lodge parking lot was in its final paving stages to avoid having to tear up the parking lot in the future.

After the board approved the funding, staff attempted to seek permits from EVMWD, but they were denied because it was not a complete project, according to the POA. The project is put on hold until the future community building design is completed and approved by the board.
