The Canyon Lake POA is considering installing solar-powered, motion-activated lights at mailbox locations throughout the community. The board of directors would like feedback from the community before deciding whether or not to move forward with this project.

In 2016, solar-powered, motion-activated lights were installed at the mailboxes located at Sorrel Lane and Black Horse Drive. The members who use these mailboxes were collectively satisfied with the installation, according to the POA.

In December 2020, the POA installed lights at the mailboxes on Longhorn Drive at Appaloosa Court and on Cruise Circle at Continental Drive, as recommended by the Facilities Planning Committee. The purpose of installing the fixtures at these additional locations was to determine if there would be any environmental impact.

If the board decides to move forward with installing lights at mailbox locations throughout the community, it would cost approximately $21 per member, according to the POA. This would be a one-time expense, not an annual expense. The POA said funds are currently available in the Capital Improvement Fund.

The board is asking members to submit feedback prior to the February 9 board meeting. The board is especially interested in receiving comments from members who use the mailboxes where the lights are currently installed. To submit feedback, email [email protected].
