Police pursuit ends in crash, suspect death

September 16 at about 9:15 a.m., a Moreno Valley Station deputy was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Heacock Street and Dracaea Avenue when he attempted to stop the driver of a black Jeep for driving while intoxicated. The driver failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit traveled on surface streets to the intersection of Indian Avenue and Krameria Avenue where the suspect failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a Hyundai Santa Fe traveling west on Krameria Avenue, according to Sergeant Bryan De Loss. The collision caused major damage to both vehicles.

The Jeep overturned and the suspect driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased, said De Loss. The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver and passenger of the Hyundai sustained injuries as a result of the collision and were transported by ambulance to an area hospital where they were treated and released.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Sergeant Bryan De Loss at the Moreno Valley Station at 951-486-6805.
