Cottonwood Canyon Elementary School and Canyon Lake Middle School were placed on lockdown on Monday morning while deputies searched for a suspect who fled the area on foot.
Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the area of Railroad Canyon Road and Canyon Hills Road regarding a stolen vehicle out of Long Beach. A pursuit was initiated when deputies attempted an enforcement stop.
The vehicle stopped in the 33000 block of Mistflower Court in the City of Lake Elsinore and the suspect fled on foot into a ravine, according to Sergeant Veronica Amparano. The Riverside County Sheriff’s SWAT, K-9 Unit, and Aviation Unit arrived on the scene and conducted an extensive check of the surrounding area for the suspect. The suspect was not located. The vehicle was recovered at the scene.
As a precaution, schools in the area were placed on lockdown until the search was exhausted.
