A monument honoring the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will be unveiled on Sunday, May 28, at 9 a.m. at the Canyon Lake Fire Station, 28730 Vacation Dr.

The cement foundation was poured on January 26. Resident Art Femister donated a small bag of crushed cement and a piece of rebar from to base of the World Trade Center.

These sacred pieces of the World Trade Center were incorporated into the foundation. The crushed concrete was mixed with the cement and the piece of rebar was installed on top of the foundation, which will be a visible part of the monument.

The monument will be installed near the base of the fire station’s flagpole.

The monument was made possible by donations from the community and coordinated by the Canyon Lake 9/11 Tribute and Patriot Day Committee.
