Sexual battery investigation leads to arrest of Murrieta acupuncturist

A 67-year-old Murrieta acupuncturist faces four felony counts of sexual battery. The charges follow a previous sexual battery incident involving the same suspect at the same location.

On December 4, 2023, a female victim reported being sexually assaulted by the acupuncturist while receiving treatment at the Maum Acupuncture Clinic at 40250 Murrieta Hot Springs Rd, Suite #105, in the City of Murrieta.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the suspect, Jin Wook Choi, was implicated in a previous sexual battery at the same location in March of 2022. That incident was also investigated by the Murrieta Police Department and was filed with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. CHOI is scheduled to appear for arraignment on that case later this month.

Choi was arrested at the acupuncture clinic on January 4. Detectives served a search warrant at the business and collected evidence believed to be related to the investigation.

A declaration in support of increased bail for $1 million was obtained. Choi was booked at Cois M. Byrd Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 18.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Jason Calvert at 951-461-6359 or [email protected], or Detective Sergeant Miguel Garcia at 951-461-6362 or [email protected].
