Sheriff’s Department seeks public’s help with information on 19-year-old male whose body was discovered in Canyon Lake

The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station is seeking the public’s help with any information on 19-year-old Jason Eilola-Coye’s whereabouts prior to Sunday, March 14, the day his body was discovered by a fisherman in Canyon Lake. He was last seen on February 28. Photo provided by Diana Hart.

The Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station is asking for the public’s help with any information on 19-year-old Jason Eilola-Coye’s whereabouts prior to Sunday, March 14, the day his body was discovered by a fisherman in Canyon Lake. “He was last heard from on February 26 and last seen on February 28,” said his grandmother, Diana Hart.

According to Hart, her grandson’s body was found about 100 yards from the dock in the north ski area of the lake.

While authorities do not suspect foul play at this time, Hart said this is a suspicious case because her grandson was found unclothed and there was no evidence of drowning or external trauma.

“Foul play may not be suspected as there was no physical trauma and he did not drown; however, nothing about this makes sense,” Hart said. Eilola-Coye’s cell phone is missing along with the clothing he was wearing.

“All of his belongings were left at his friend’s home,” Hart said. “Which seems odd being that his ID and bank cards were left behind.”

According to Hart, the Menifee Police Department took her grandson to a mental health urgent care in Perris on the afternoon of February 28. “We later found out he never checked in and there has been no sight of him since then,” Hart said.

Eilola-Coye was living in Lake Elsinore but had been in the cities of Menifee and Perris prior to his death. Hart said her grandson was also familiar with the Murrieta area.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Investigator Poznanski at the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station at 951-245-3300.
