Spanish guitarist David Maldonado will be opening for the sold-out Jim Messina concert on Saturday, April 16, at 7 p.m. at the Canyon Lake Lodge.
Maldonaldo’s early influences encompassed a broad range of Spanish classical music. At eight years old, Maldonaldo was already an accomplished violinist, immersed in the world of Bach and Mozart. At 10 years old, Maldonaldo felt the guitar was more natural. By the age of 14, Maldonaldo was performing classical guitar concerts and began to study under the Royal Family of the Classical Guitar.
Maldonaldo’s music reflects the structure inherent in traditional classical composition, at the same time bringing forth the upbeat rhythms and gypsy scales of flamenco. The combination of these, along with Maldonaldo’s energy and stage presence, invokes a passionate response from audiences of all ages, offering an enticing journey into this unique infusion of Spanish guitar styling.
Maldonado has toured the world, recorded parts for movies in Hollywood, composed two original symphonies, and has sold out theaters in major U.S. cities. He won Best Jazz at the Temecula Valley Music Awards in 2018 and his 2019 album “DAVICAS XX” debuted at number one on the iTunes New Age charts.
Jim Messina will take the stage following Maldonaldo’s performance. Messina is a former member of the folk-rock group Buffalo Springfield, a founding member of the pioneering country-rock band Poco, and half of the soft rock duo Loggins and Messina with Kenny Loggins.
