Stole vehicle pursuit in Murrieta leads to multi-vehicle collision, eight people injured

A stolen vehicle pursuit in the City of Murrieta led to a multi-vehicle collision when the driver ran a red light. Eight people, including the suspect and his passenger, were injured.

Around 10:50 a.m., Murrieta police officers located a stolen vehicle driving near the intersection of Juniper Street and Jefferson Avenue. When officers attempted to conduct an enforcement stop and make contact with the two occupants, the driver sped away.

Despite attempts at a second enforcement stop, the fleeing driver failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

The pursuit came to an end when the suspect ran a red light at the intersection of Nutmeg Street and Jackson Avenue and collided with three other vehicles. The pursuing officers assisted the injured and requested Murrieta Fire & Rescue.

The driver of the stolen vehicle and his female passenger, along with six other individuals, were subsequently transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The California Highway Patrol responded and took over the investigation. The investigation confirmed the vehicle was stolen, and illicit drugs were discovered inside the vehicle.

The driver was placed under arrest for multiple felony charges including evading an officer causing injury, violating parole, and possession of methamphetamine for sale. The driver faces additional pending charges.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Sergeant Steve Whiddon at 951-461-6323 or [email protected].
