Suicidal armed man fatally shot by deputy in Wildomar

A Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy fatally shot an armed suicidal man who was reportedly trying to force his way into a residence in Wildomar on Sunday.

At around 1:25 p.m. Lake Elsinore Station deputies were dispatched to a home in the 34600 block of Orange Street in the City of Wildomar. Deputies were advised that the suspect admitted to being in possession of a rifle, wanting to kill himself, and stated he was at the residence trying to make contact with the occupant, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit arrived overhead and located the suspect in possession of a rifle near the backhouse of the property trying to physically pry open the door of the residence, authorities said. During that time, dispatch advised that the occupant was inside the residence and fearing for their life.

Deputies en route to the location were informed that shots had been fired by the suspect, authorities said. When deputies arrived, the suspect was located on property in possession of a rile and a deputy shooting occurred.

After multiple attempts at life-saving measures, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

No injuries occurred to the deputies or the occupant of the home. Per department policy, the deputy involved in this incident will be placed on administrative leave.
