A suspect was arrested on Thursday in connection with a 2019 murder in the City of Perris.
On November 6, 2019, deputies assigned to the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to a shooting in the 200 block of East 7th Street, where they found three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the individuals, identified as 22-year-old Santiago Diaz of Perris, was declared deceased at the scene. The other two individuals were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Despite an extensive investigation, no arrests were made, and the case eventually went cold.
In late 2024, the case was reopened after a review identified new evidence. As a result, 26-year-old Jeremy Whittle of Perris was identified as a suspect.
On March 27, Whittle was arrested in the City of Temecula and booked for murder. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, according to jail records.
