California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigators have arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for a freeway shooting that occurred on the SR-91 Freeway in the City of Riverside on December 14.
During the incident, the driver of a blue Chevrolet Camaro fired an unknown number of rounds at another motorist before fleeing the scene westbound on SR-91. The other motorist, and driver of the victim vehicle, was struck by the gunfire and hospitalized.
On December 22, Maurice Orlando Stells Jr., a 41-year-old resident of Moreno Valley, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, negligent discharge of a firearm, assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting at an occupied vehicle.
“The California Highway Patrol aggressively investigates all crimes occurring on the freeways and has highly trained investigators who work tirelessly to locate and apprehend violent criminals,” Riverside Area Commander Captain E. Meeker said. “Acts such as these will not be tolerated and will be investigated and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I commend the hard work of our investigators to bring this dangerous criminal to justice.”
