On February 13 at about 11:57 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Moreno Valley Station responded to the report of a hit and run traffic collision involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Perris Boulevard and Fir Avenue in Moreno Valley.
Deputies arrived on scene and found a male pedestrian suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim, later identified by the Riverside County Coroner as 37-year old Jose Manuel of Moreno Valley, was declared deceased at the scene.
Deputies determined the vehicle involved in the collision with the pedestrian had fled the area without rendering aid or summoning assistance, according to Sergeant Grmusha.
Information obtained during the preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was crossing Perris Boulevard, south of the intersection, when he was struck by an older, white, two-door Pontiac Grand Am traveling northbound on Perris Boulevard at a high rate of speed.
According to the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, the Pontiac slowed and pulled to the side of the roadway with a purple Scion XB following the collision, after which both the Pontiac and Scion fled the area eastbound on Fir Avenue.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Deputy Dustin Deanne at Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station at 951-486-6887.
