Suspect injured during deputy and officer-involved shooting in Hemet

On March 2, a deputy and officer-involved shooting occurred when deputies and officers from the Riverside County Gang Task Force were searching for a known suspect in the City of Hemet with three felony warrants for carjacking, robbery, drugs, and weapons charges.

Task force members located the suspect seated in a vehicle in the 600 block of North Taschner Drive and attempted to contact him. The suspect drove away a short distance, abandoned his vehicle, and fled on foot, the Riverside Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies and officers chased the armed suspect through several yards and onto a property in the 600 block of Hillmer Drive. Once on the property, a deputy and officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck with gunfire and was immediately provided medical treatment, the department said. Paramedics from the Hemet Fire Department and AMR provided further on-scene medical aid prior to transporting the suspect to a local hospital.

The suspect, Edgar Solis, a 35-year-old resident of Hemet, was arrested and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. A firearm was located at the scene, authorities said. No deputies or officers were injured during this incident.

The involved deputies and officers will be placed on paid administrative leave per their department policies.

An investigator from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office will lead this investigation, aided by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Force Investigations Detail.
