Temescal Canyon High School Spotlight Players to present Chicago: Teen Edition

The Temescal Canyon High School Spotlight Players will be performing Chicago: Teen Edition from March 14 through March 16 and March 21 through March 23 at the Jeanie Corral Performing Arts Centre, 28755 El Toro Rd., Lake Elsinore. The curtain rises at 7 p.m.

Kander and Ebb’s legendary and award-winning musical, set in the 1920s, is a scathing satire of fame, justice, and the media machine. Directed by Tara Abell, the adaption of this production was specifically designed to be content-appropriate, since overtly sexual references and adult language have been removed.

This production features Bob Fosse-inspired choreography, glamorous costumes, and popular songs such as “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango.” It also spotlights a live orchestra pit of students from the Titan Thunder Entertainment Corps. The set is based on The Cicada Club, a historical art deco supper club in the Oviatt Building in Los Angeles.

“This is truly a TCHS visual and performing arts collaboration,” Director Tara Abell said. “We haven’t been able to have a pit full of live musicians since we produced Grease in 2011. As far as I know, TCHS is the only high school in the district to use live accompaniment. This is a unique experience for our TCHS students, and I am so grateful to give them an opportunity that will help them develop as performers. There’s nothing like performing with live music. We’ve put together a gorgeous production and the students are really rising to the occasion. I am so proud.”

Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets can be purchased online on the GoFan app or from a mobile device or computer at GoFan.co. For more information, call 951-253-7250.
