
For the third consecutive year, Team Platinum won the Canyon Lake Sunday Coed Softball League championship. The playoffs and championship game was held on Sunday at Gault Field.
In the first game of the day, Team Pink moved forward in the playoffs after beating Team Baby Blue 9-5.
With a final score of 13-12, Team Red beat Team Neon. Team Checkered prevailed in the game against Team Red with a one-run lead. The final score was 15-14. Reigning champions Team Platinum took the win over Team Pink with a final score of 16-5.
In the championship game, Team Platinum crushed Team Checkered with a 20-3 mercy. Platinum started it off with a triple by Brock Schoomaker with aggressive base running in the first inning. On an exciting play from left field, the ball was thrown to get the runner at second out in a sliding tag by Platinum’s Lori Smith.
Team Checkered had an in-the-park home run by Adrian Ramirez. Team Platinum followed it up with an in-the-park home run by Jason Maslach. Platinum’s Rihanna Thompson caught a tough pop-up at catcher, then made a throw to first for a double play. Her husband, Casey Thompson, had a two-RBI double in the fifth inning.
By the fifth inning, Team Platinum had pulled a good lead. The game was called for a mercy in the top of the sixth inning.
The All-Star games are scheduled for Sunday, November 19, at 10 a.m. The snack bar will be open from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
