The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Southwest Station will be conducting a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint on Friday, January 23, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location in the City of Temecula.
The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road. Checkpoint locations are selected based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol; some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Deputy Lopez said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
Drivers charged with driving under the influence face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended license.
