The Temescal Canyon High School Spotlight Players will be performing Ken Ludwig’s Leading Ladies from November 13 through November 15 and November 20 through November 22 at the Jeanie Corral Performing Arts Centre, 28755 El Toro Rd., Lake Elsinore. The curtain rises at 7 p.m.
Leading Ladies is a comedy by Ken Ludwig, the author of Lend Me A Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo. It is the story of Leo and Jack: two British, Shakespearean actors, who find themselves so down on their luck that they are performing, “Scenes from Shakespeare” on the Moose Lodge circuit in Amish country in 1952. When they read that an old lady in York, PA, is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long-lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives to get the cash. They later discover that the relatives aren’t nephews, but nieces.
Romantic entanglements are abound, especially when Leo falls in love with the old lady’s niece, Meg, who’s engaged to the local minister. Meg knows that there’s a wide world out there, but it’s not until she meets “Maxine and Stephanie” that she finally gets a taste of it.
