Menifee police officers screened 1,215 vehicles during a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Saturday between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. at the intersection of Newport Road and Winter Hawk Road.
Seven drivers were cited for being unlicensed and 17 drivers were cited for various vehicle code violations observed around the checkpoint area. No arrests were made for DUI.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
Menifee Police Department will hold another DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on a date to be determined.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
