The Menifee Police Department made two arrests and issued 24 citations during a DUI Checkpoint on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. near the intersection of Newport Road and Murrieta Road.
Deputies screened 1,370 vehicles between the hours of 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. One driver was arrested for alcohol-related DUI and one drive was arrested for drug-related DUI. Additionally, 66 vehicles were stopped for various violations and 24 citations were issued. Eight drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed and three vehicles were towed.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
The Menifee Police Department will hold another DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on a date to be determined.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
