A vehicle was retrieved from Canyon Lake this morning after it rolled down the boat ramp during a photoshoot.

Surveillance cameras operated by Canyon Lake Community Patrol captured an oil spill at the Eastport boat ramp, prompting a response from the fire department, according to Canyon Lake Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse.

Canyon Lake Engine 1 and Battalion 1 responded to the scene and located a completely submerged vehicle. The fire department was unable to locate the owner of the vehicle at the scene. Unclear if any occupants were inside the vehicle, the fire department initiated a response from the Cal Fire water rescue team and Riverside County Sheriff’s dive team.

During the response, the owner of the vehicle returned to the scene and confirmed that the vehicle was unoccupied, LaTendresse said. The water rescue team was canceled.

The dive team made entry and assisted with the recovery of the vehicle. Due to the release of contaminants, Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District and Riverside County Environmental Health were notified of the incident.

The POA installed booms around the accident site to contain the oil spill and prevent further contamination of the lake. There were no reports of injuries.
