Victim shot at, robbed during sale organized on OfferUp app

On December 16, 8:05 a.m., Moreno Valley Station deputies were dispatched to the 11000 block of Mathews Road in the City of Moreno Valley regarding a robbery at gunpoint. The victim was at the location to sell the suspect items using the OfferUp application, according to the Riverside Sheriff’s Department. When the victim presented the items for sale, the suspect pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at the victim.

The suspect forcefully removed property from the victim and fired one round directly at the victim, according to Sergeant Ryan Marcuse. After shooting at the victim, the suspect fled the area in a red SUV. Deputies canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspect or suspect vehicle.

Through assistance from the public and the Moreno Valley Citywide Camera System, the suspect was identified as 20-year-old Lata Aeau of Moreno Valley.

On December 23, the Moreno Valley Station Robbery Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) served a search warrant at Aeau’s residence. Several items related to the robbery were located and Aeau was taken into custody without incident.

Additionally, Moreno Valley residents Onosai Tavui, 34, and Anzac Aeau, 21, were located at the residence and arrested for several outstanding felony warrants.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Deputy Ryan Morgan at 951-486-6700.
