The Canyon Lake Yacht Club held its annual spring Lake Clean-Up Day on Saturday. Approximately 25 volunteers, including Mayor Mark Terry, participated in this year’s clean-up.
From Diamond Point Park, volunteers set out on five boats to retrieve items along the shoreline. Items collected included plastic water bottles and caps, styrofoam bait containers, cushions, logs, plastic bags, beer cans, cigarette butts, and even a dead possum. Volunteers collected 12 bags of trash.
“All in all, the lake was relatively in good shape,” Yacht Club Commodore Rob Mora said. That said, we still managed to collect a fair amount of debris. Every piece picked up makes a difference, and it’s thanks to volunteers that we can enjoy a cleaner, safer environment for all. Thanks to POA Operations and Marie Patrol for the help.”
Later that evening, the club hosted a Full Moon Cruise. Participants met at the Holiday Harbor Park docks to enjoy shared appetizers before setting sail around the main lake. The evening concluded with boats tying up in Catfish Cove, where attendees socialized and enjoyed to view of the full moon.
The Yacht Club was established in 1990 by Canyon Lake residents who enjoyed time on the lake. The club maintains a busy social calendar, bringing members together for dinners, sunset cruises, and other recreation. The club also hosts Canyon Lake’s iconic Parade of Lights holiday boat parade and gives back to the community through its student scholarship program.
