A 23-year-old woman who continued selling fentanyl despite being warned by law enforcement of its deadly dangers has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
On July 24, a jury convicted Moreno Valley resident Savanna Michelle Carlos of second-degree murder for supplying the lethal fentanyl that caused the death of 27-year-old Jesse Jimenez.
Months before the fatal poisoning, Carlos was present at another individual’s fentanyl poisoning, performed CPR on the victim, and was warned by law enforcement about the deadly dangers of fentanyl. Despite that warning, prosecutors say she continued selling fentanyl, including the sale that resulted in the victim’s death. Evidence further showed she continued selling the illicit drug after learning of the victim’s death.
During the sentencing hearing, members of the victim’s family were present and shared how the loss of their loved one has impacted them.
