Yacht Club updates members at Annual Membership Meeting

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club held its Annual Membership Meeting on September 17. Due to an excessive heat forecast and poor air quality, the in-person meeting was changed to a recorded video meeting. The video was posted on the club’s YouTube channel and shared with members.

After Commodore Dave Dain welcomed the members, Vice Commodore Ron Wilbur shared a number of milestones for the club this year, while acknowledging that it was also a very challenging year.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the club had to cancel a number of scheduled events this year and create new events that comply with public health guidelines. In addition to creating 10 new events, the club created a new program, Yacht Club Cares, to assist members during the pandemic.

Wilbur acknowledged several standout club members and announced that membership has grown 33 percent in the last four months. Purser Kathy Wood presented an update on the club’s finances.

The guest speaker, POA President Chris Poland, gave the club an inside look at the POA board and the governing philosophies it has developed. He also detailed a few of the current and pending community projects and gave the club an update on how the POA Board is working to maintain and improve the lake.
