Renovations are underway at Canyon Lake Fire Station 1. Renovations began the week of January 3 and are expected to be completed by the end of the month.
As Station 1 must now serve as both a fire station and as the fire department’s administrative office, renovations were necessary in order to create the needed office space for the fire chief, battalion chief, and the administrative assistant/analyst.
The space that was previously used as the captain’s bedroom is being converted to an office for the fire chief. An office for the battalion chief is being created out of a portion of what used to be an extra-wide hallway.
The room previously used as the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is being converted into an office and a separate bedroom for the captain on-duty. “A new EOC will be created as part of a City Hall renovation project, which will likely be funded by ARPA grant money,” City Manager Chris Mann said. “In the meantime, the conference room in City Hall Administration will serve as a temporary EOC should we need to activate it before the new EOC is complete.”
Once the fire station renovations are completed, tours will be offered to the public as part of an official fire department grand opening celebration, which the city is planning on hosting in the latter part of February.
