Kayaks, paddleboards, stand-up pedal boards, and row boats filled the East Bay on Saturday at the 11th Annual Paddle and Pedal Regatta, sponsored by the Canyon Lake Triathlon and Fitness Club.
After gathering for a group photo, 40 to 60 participants paddled from Indian Beach to the Eastport launch ramp and back.
Participants were encouraged to dress in Hawaiian style. Leis were provided. Tracey Rainwater, dressed as a pig, and Darla Coleman, pursuing the pig with her spear, won first and second place in the costume contest and were presented with tumblers.
Adult and youth paddleboard races followed the group paddle. Sicilia Morris came in first place in the youth category. In the adult category, Rachel Cozloff placed first. She was followed by Amy Huecker in second and Devon Greg in third. The winners were presented with medals.
Participants enjoyed socializing on the beach after the event. Triathlon and Fitness Club organizer Karin Cassidy would like to thank everyone who came out and Maria Kivrizis, Matt Kivrizis, and Laura Hegland for volunteering.
The club will be hosting its Olympic/Sprint Relay on Saturday, October 14. This race will be the club’s last race of the 2023 season. The race will be a relay format with participants paired to form teams.
Participants can choose to do two or three legs. The distant options are 750m or 1,500m for swimming, 12.5 miles or 25 miles for biking, or 3.1 miles or 6.2 miles for running. Details and registration information will be posted on the club’s Facebook page at canyonlaketriathlonclub.
Other upcoming events include the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning and the Santa Ride on December 16.
