Canyon Lake POA cancels 9/11 tribute event

The Canyon Lake POA has announced the cancellation of its 9/11 tribute event scheduled for September 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the lodge.

This decision comes due to poor air quality caused by the Line Fire in San Bernardino County and the Airport Fire affecting Orange and Riverside Counties.

“While we won’t gather in person, let’s still take a moment to honor the memories of those we lost on 9/11 and show our appreciation for our veterans and first responders,” the POA said in a statement. “Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe.”

Additionally, the City of Canyon Lake canceled its 9/11 event planned for the same day. “The Canyon Lake Fire Department and city staff are saddened to have canceled this event, but the safety of the community will continue to be top priority,” the city said.

The fire department planned to honor Thomas Hannafin, one of the fallen heroes who had a connection to the City of Canyon Lake, with an unveiling of a restored plaque and a speech from Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse. Although Chief LaTendresse’s speech will not be delivered, the plaque has been restored and will be available at the fire station for the public to see.
