The Menifee Police Department announced that it will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Saturday, May 16, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location within city limits. Checkpoint locations are selected based on areas with a history of DUI crashes and arrests.
During the checkpoint, Menifee officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The department encourages residents to drive responsibly and to always have a designated driver or use alternative transportation if consuming alcohol or impairing substances.
“DUIs are extremely dangerous and can affect so many people with one bad decision made and that bad decision is driving impaired,” Sergeant Dan Beare said. “Driving while under the influence of alcohol, and/or drugs, is dangerous, potentially deadly, and 100% preventable.”
Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
