At the June 10 Canyon Lake City Council meeting, the council formally accepted a $75,000 contribution from cannabis retail applicant RD Canyon Lake LLC, known as Higher Ground, and allocated the funds to the city’s police department budget for public safety-related expenditures.
The contribution was part of Higher Ground’s proposal submitted during the city’s commercial cannabis retail permit selection process.
On January 5, the city issued a Letter of Intent identifying Higher Ground as the preferred applicant for Canyon Lake’s available commercial cannabis retail permit. The selection was based on the city manager’s determination that Higher Ground’s application provided the best overall value to the city. Factors considered included the company’s operational experience in multiple jurisdictions and its proposed location within the Canyon Lake Towne Center.
As part of its proposal, Higher Ground offered to contribute $75,000 to support public safety services within the city. The funding is intended to assist with public safety needs associated with the administration and oversight of commercial cannabis operations while also supporting ongoing law enforcement services throughout the community.
With the council’s approval, the funds will be directed to the police department budget and used for public safety-related expenses.
The action marks another step in the city’s implementation of its commercial cannabis retail program as officials continue preparations for the eventual operation of a cannabis retail business within Canyon Lake.
