Due to the unexpected passing of Councilman Jordan Ehrenkranz, a vacancy on the Canyon Lake City Council occurred on May 5. Pursuant to the requirements of California Government Code Section 36512(b), the council has 60 days from the commencement of the vacancy to fill the vacancy by appointment or call a special election to fill the vacancy.
The council will fill the vacancy by appointment and is currently seeking applications. The candidate appointed to fill the vacant seat will serve as a member of the council until the next general municipal election (November 8, 2022).
Applicants must at least 18 years old, a resident of the City of Canyon Lake, and legally registered to vote at their current address.

Applications must be completed in their entirety and be received by the city clerk’s office no later than Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. The City Clerk’s Office will not accept late applications or postmarks.
The most qualified applicants will be selected by an ad-hoc committee and invited to interview before the council at a Special City Council Meeting on Wednesday, June 23. Directly following a vote by council at the June 23 meeting, the appointed individual will be sworn in.
