The Canyon Lake Newbies and Social Club hosted its 2nd Annual Fall Picnic and Turkey Hunt on Saturday afternoon at Holiday Harbor Park. The event was open to the community and featured a pork ribs and tri-tip barbecue, a Turkey Hunt, three Piñatas, and face painting.
The main focus of the event was to assemble care packages for U.S. troops. More than 75 care packages were assembled with items donated by the community. Mayor Kasey Castillo was among those who helped to assemble the care packages during the picnic.
The picnic kicked off with the Turkey Hunt, which involved kids armed with Nerf guns hunting down four men, Bradley Morton, Greg Lowrey, Jake Woolsey, and Andrew Medved, dressed in turkey suits. After the turkeys were found and shot with Nerf bullets, the turkeys armed themselves with the Nerf guns and hunted the kids.
Nearly 50 kids participated in the Turkey Hunt. Those who participated were entered into a free drawing for a chance to win Nerf guns. The participant who picked up the most Nerf bullets from the ground after the Turkey Hunt was awarded a Nerf Gun. Evan Clevland was the winner.
The primary sponsors of this event included Bradley Morton of Canyon Lake Coldwell Banker, Patriotic Arms, Real Deals, Underline Energy, and Mr. Stix Moving.
The group’s founders, Jonda and Bradley Morton, said they are looking forward to the group hosting more fun events in 2022.
