The City of Canyon Lake recognized firefighters Tim O’Marra, Nathaniel Garcia, and Ryan Moore for saving the life of resident Dale Erwin, who went into cardiac arrest at the fire station.
Feeling chest pains, Erwin drove to the Canyon Lake Fire Station early in the morning on Labor Day. Moments after entering the station, Erwin went into cardiac arrest and his heart stopped. Utilizing their extensive training and life-saving equipment, firefighters were able to revive him.
On Wednesday, Erwin and his wife visited the fire station to express their gratitude to the firefighters who saved his life.
Mayor Pro Tem Dale Welty, Councilwoman Jennifer Dain, and City Manager Nicole Dailey presented O’Marra, Garcia, and Moore with a Certificate of Recognition for their life-saving actions.
While Erwin’s story is remarkable, there could have been a different outcome if the on-duty firefighters were out on another call and not at the fire station. The fire department wants to emphasize to the community that dialing 9-1-1 is the fastest way to ensure immediate assistance. The fire department would also like to emphasize the significance of CPR in life-threatening situations.
