Former student arrested for making threats against Murrieta middle school

A 13-year-old was arrested on Saturday, August 17, for making threats against their former school, Warm Springs Middle School.

According to the Murrieta Police Department, the threats were discovered on Instagram, where the suspect had tagged the school’s page.

School Resource officers investigated and identified the juvenile suspect as a former student.

A search warrant was served at the suspect’s residence, leading to the juvenile’s arrest and seizure of four firearms belonging to a family member, the department said. The suspect was placed under arrest for the threats and booked into the Riverside County Southwest Juvenile Hall.

“We take the safety and security of our schools with the utmost seriousness and are satisfied that this threat has been resolved,” the Murrieta Police Department said. “Even so, we will be extra vigilant during the upcoming school week and have plans for additional staffing at Warm Springs Middle School and our other schools as necessary.”
