The City of Canyon Lake accepted a grant-funded fire department water training trailer, a mobile, self-contained training unit designed to simulate realistic water flow, pump operations, hose management, hydrant connection, and water supply scenarios.
Partnering with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, EVMWD obtained the grant for the water training trailer for the fire department.
The fire department completes nearly 3,000 hours of training annually. Much of this training includes firefighting techniques that involve flowing thousands of gallons of water. The ability to recycle water allows crews to continuously spray and reuse the same supply by directing it back into the unit.
This approach not only supports high-quality, scenario-based training aligned with national best practices and safety standards but also delivers a major environmental benefit. Officials estimate the trailer will help conserve more than 10,000 gallons of water each year.
Acquisition of this water training trailer will enhance firefighter proficiency in water supply and pump operations, improve on-scene efficiency and reduce response times, strengthen firefighter safety through repetitive, controlled training scenarios, and provide regional training opportunities for automatic and mutual aid partners.
The total cost of the water training trailer is anticipated to be $120,062.81. By accepting this grant, the city is required to provide EVMWD with data every six months showing the water savings by using the water training trailer.
The trailer is expected to arrive within the next three months.
