The Menifee Police Department announced that it will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Saturday, June 13, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location within city limits. Checkpoint locations are selected based on areas with a history of DUI crashes and arrests.
During the checkpoint, Menifee officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The department encourages residents to drive responsibly and to always have a designated driver or use alternative transportation if consuming alcohol or impairing substances.
“DUIs are 100% preventable and when somebody makes the bad decision to drive impaired; it can potentially have lifelong effects,” Sergeant Dan Beare said. “Driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is dangerous and potentially deadly. It not only affects the driver but so many families and friends too.”
Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
