Residents enrolled in Canyon Lake’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Subscription Program will continue paying the same annual rate after the city council voted unanimously on June 10 to keep the fee unchanged for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The fee is currently $309 per year, equivalent to $25.75 per month. Notice of the proposed EMS Program fees was mailed to all city residents on March 5. The notice provided residents with 90 days to opt in or opt out of the program for the upcoming fiscal year, July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. As outlined in the notice, all current subscribers would remain enrolled unless a written notice terminating participation was submitted to the city clerk.
The EMS Subscription Program protects members from any out-of-pocket expenses related to medical treatment provided by the Canyon Lake Fire Department. It does not cover ambulance transportation costs, as this is billed by a private company ambulance provider separate from the City of Canyon Lake.
Residents who opt out of the EMS Program will not be charged the annual fee; however, if emergency medical services are provided by the Canyon Lake Fire Department or by any other first responder agency, non-subscribers will receive a bill of $1,545 each incident requiring service.
The annual fee is collected on the property tax roll in the same manner as other city services, such as residential solid waste collection charges.
For residential households, the subscription to the EMS Subscription Program covers all members, guests, and invitees of the subscriber’s household, or in the case of businesses, the business owner, employees, customers, guests, and invitees of the subscribing business, regardless of the location where the emergency medical services are rendered within the city.
Participation in the program is voluntary. All persons currently subscribed will continue to be subscribed for the upcoming fiscal year, July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
All persons who have declined to participate, or have previously terminated their subscriptions, will not be subscribed unless they provide written notice to the city clerk of their desire to participate, or opt-in, in the EMS Subscription Program.
