Pedestrian suffers critical injuries in Menifee crash

A 72-year-old Menifee resident is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Antelope Road and Chambers Avenue.

According to the Menifee Police Department, officers responded to to the scene at approximately 4 p.m. and located a Kia Telluride stopped in the southbound lanes of Antelope Road and a 72-year-old male pedestrian lying unresponsive in the roadway with severe injuries. The driver of the Kia, a 46-year-old Menifee man, was uninjured, remained at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation.

American Medical Response provided medical treatment to the pedestrian before transporting him to a local hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Kia was traveling southbound on Antelope Road approaching Chambers Avenue when it collided with the pedestrian. The driver attempted to avoid striking the pedestrian but was unable to prevent the collision.

According to authorities, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision at this stage of the investigation.
