The Hemet Police Department will be holding a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, August 21, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location within city limits.
During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
The primary purpose of checkpoints is to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on DUI crash and arrest data collection and statistical information.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for this checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
