The County of Riverside proclaimed a local emergency in response to the Fairview Fire. The emergency proclamation could help make the county eligible for potential federal and state assistance and cost reimbursement. In addition, the proclamation would allow the county to more easily procure needed services and items to respond to the emergency.
The proclamation must go to the board of supervisors within seven days for ratification, which will take place during the regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday, September 13.
The wildland fire broke out on September 5 near Hemet and has since burned more than 28,000 acres, destroyed several structures, and killed two people. The fire is 56 percent contained. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
