Canyon Lake Kids Fishing Derby set for September 16

The Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club will be hosting its 37th Annual Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, September 16. Boys and girls ages five to 15 are invited to reel in fish for trophies and prizes. This event typically draws 200 to 400 young anglers each year.

This is a free event; however, parents must register their children and sign a waiver. Registration can be done online prior to the derby or in person on the day of the derby between 6 and 8 a.m. at Holiday Harbor Park.

Participants are allowed to fish anywhere on the lake from 6 to 11 a.m. No more than three fish per species (bluegill, crappie, catfish, and carp) may be weighed in. Bass is excluded. Participants who catch bass should release them back into the lake.

Weigh-in is from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Holiday Harbor Park. Participants who are not in line by noon will not be eligible for trophies.

Complimentary hot dogs and drinks will be served at noon at the Holiday Harbor Park snack bar.

Trophies will be presented at 1 p.m. in three age groups: five to seven, eight to 11, and 12 to 15. The girl and boy who reels in the biggest fish will also be awarded a trophy. Every participant will go home with a prize.

Sponsorship is available. Sponsors who signup before September 10 will have an opportunity to have their names added to the event banner.

The Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club is a nonprofit organization. To inquire about sponsorship or donating a prize, contact Chuck Moreno at 951-837-5941. To register for the derby, click here.
