The Canyon Lake Yacht Club has recognized Joanne and Ray Stribling as its August Deckhands of the Month. This recognition is part of the club’s Deckhand of the Month program, which celebrates members who consistently go above and beyond in supporting the club and helping guide it toward its mission.

Joanne hails from Edmonton, Canada, and moved to the U.S. in 2003. Ray was born and raised in the South Bay and grew up near Redondo Beach. They met through a hiking group in Rancho Palos Verdes, where they discovered their mutual love for hiking, golfing, and international travel.

Their wedding plans were disrupted due to COVID-19, but they quickly adapted. A friend from Canyon Lake offered his waterfront home, allowing the couple to celebrate their wedding in true community spirit. It was an unforgettable moment that reflected their resilience and the warmth of their new community.

Canyon Lake residents for about 10 years, the Striblings stay active by golfing weekly and competing on the pickleball courts. Joanne enjoys wakeboarding, while Ray enjoys sky skiing. They both share a love for moonlit boat rides, often taking advantage of the serene nights on the lake.

In addition to their love for fun and fitness, the Striblings are actively involved in the community. Ray serves on the POA’s Planning and Compliance Committee and is working with the Yacht Club to explore opportunities for a dedicated Yacht Club clubhouse at the lodge. Joanne’s flair for design adds creativity and excitement to the Yacht Club’s themed events.

“Together, they’ve wowed us with their boat decorations and costumes at events like the Summer Splash and Hawaiian Cruise,” Commodore Rob Mora said. “Their commitment to bringing joy to our events and enhancing our community is truly inspiring.”

In appreciation for their contributions, the Yacht Club treated the Striblings to dinner at the Canyon Lake Golf and Country Club. They were joined by Commodore Rob Mora, Vice Commodore Dave Carter, Purser Lynette Rodriguez, Events Chair Cindy Silk-Gonzalez, and Membership Chair Cathy Lekawa.

“We are incredibly grateful for everything Ray and Joanne do for our club and the broader community,” Mora said. “Their enthusiasm, commitment, and creativity make Canyon Lake a more vibrant and joyful place to live. Thank you, Ray and Joanne, for your continued dedication and passion!”
